Love

heart

Soft and enclosing;
harsh and controlled.
Do as you wish
or do as youโ€™re told.

Scorched by fire
or warmed by the glow.
Passion imagined
and passion you know.
The heart takes the strain,
whether pounding with lust
or beating with joy
for the one that you trust.

Yet moments intrude
when pain bites deep,
terror of losing
what the heart needs to keep.
Worries made clear
can slice for the faith
that the soul holds esteemed
and wants to keep safe.

Through trials, through pain
it fights on your side.
One thing required,
true love inside.

  1. A colleague just read over my shoulder… “One thought on love…. Expensive!” lol
    I can’t really fault him.
The poem isn’t all I’d like it to be… how do you define love? I’m glad you liked it. I had the last line first and had to creep up on it.

    • Not entirely sure he’d manage the poem… he’s… he’s a man’s man ๐Ÿ˜‰
I had hoped to cover all that love is. Too bold an intent, love can be everything.

    • I like the last line… most people seem too…. but the line I absolutely adore having written is the simple:
“Do as you wish or do as youโ€™re told.”

Thank you though… without somebody to read… these words serve no purpose.

    • Funny you should say that… some time in the Autumn, myself, SJ Warner and AJ Walters are combining our poems in an erotic anthology.

I’m also planning to publish a novel sometime soon; Her Name is James – http://www.cjheath.com/her-name-is-james/
(waiting on hearing from a publisher, if they don’t take me on, I’ll self publish rather than traipse to the next publisher’s door).
